The Aerie Resort is for sale

VANCOUVER ISLAND—The Aerie Resort & Spa, perched atop the Malahat stretch of Vancouver Island’s main highway, is up for sale. The famed resort and spa has won a number of accolades, including the #1 ranked hotel in North America from Travel & Leisure Magazine, and the best resort in North America from Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. The resort overlooks the Cowichan Valley, which is fast becoming a destination for food and wine lovers. The location is a 25-minute drive north of Victoria, BC, and one-hour by plane from Vancouver.
The property “includes immense development opportunity,” according to the August 18 Paramount Lodging real estate listing.

InterContinental Yorkville joins prestigious ALHI group

BW Royal Brock & Conference Centre opens in Guelph

GUELPH, ON—The Best Western Royal Brock Hotel and Conference Center in Guelph, Ontario, opened its doors on May 15, 2009. Owned by Paresh Raja, the newly-renovated 104-room property, previously a Ramada, features an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center and high-speed Internet access throughout the hotel. Guests will also enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast and Stone Lounge, the hotel’s on-site restaurant and cocktail lounge.
Each room has a 32-inch flat screen television and refrigerator. The hotel’s conference facilities are ideal for guests planning meetings or weddings with room to accommodate more than 200 people. Banquet services are also available.
Located across from the University of Guelph, the property is an ideal lodging choice for students, business and leisure travellers. Other nearby attractions include the Guelph Civic Museum, Guelph Lakes Golf Course and River Run Centre, a renowned jazz theater and a performing arts center.
Raja, who has been in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, also owns the Best Western Durham Hotel & Conference Centre in Oshawa, Ontario.

Brand new Days Inn built in Grande Prairie, Alberta

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB—There’s a new hotel on the block in Grande Prairie — a newly built, 90-room, pet friendly Days Inn. This hotel offers its guests a free hot Daybreak Café breakfast, a fitness centre and whirlpool, free local calls, and a 24-hour self-serve business centre with a meeting room for up to 35 people.
 “Days Inn - Grande Prairie is a beautiful new property that offers great amenities and great value,” said Irwin Prince, president and COO, Realstar Hospitality.
 “We are very excited to open our second Days Inn hotel in Alberta,” said Ki Il Choi, owner of Days Inn - Grande Prairie and Days Inn - Athabasca, which opened in May. “The hotel is situated near Grande Prairie Regional College which is great for parents dropping off their new students in August, visiting their kids mid-semester, or coming to Grande Prairie to prospect the school.”

Renos at Fairmont’s Mont Trembant, Hotel Macdonald

MONT TREMBLANT, EDMONTON—Fairmont Tremblant in Quebec completed a $1.2 million restaurant renovation in July 2009 that showcases the talent of the resort’s culinary team. 
The brand new Nansen Lounge and completely redesigned Windigo Restaurant feature panoramic windows that maximize views of Mont Tremblant from all angles. 
In Windigo Restaurant, chef Daniel Tobien blends seasonal, regional and sustainable fare with years of experience, a passion for excellence, and a determination to transform a fine meal into a true culinary adventure. 
Touted as the lounge with the best view in Tremblant, the newly inaugurated Nansen Lounge is located right on the leisurely Nansen run with direct ski-in, ski-out access. The focal point of the lounge is a magnificent field stone fireplace.
In spring 2009, Edmonton’s Fairmont Hotel Macdonald introduced 12 distinctive Lord Strathcona Signature Guestrooms honouring Lord Strathcona, whose contribution to building Canadian history helped shape the future of the country. The guestrooms feature artifacts and photographs donated by Edmonton’s Royal Regiment, in addition to river valley views, complimentary daily breakfast, upscale speaker phones and iPod clock radios.

New Hampton Inn Hotel opens in North Bay, Ontario

NORTH BAY, ON—Hampton Hotels officially opened its newest property in July, the 102-room Hampton Inn by Hilton, located at 950 McKeown Avenue. The hotel is owned by 2155328 Ontario Corporation and operated by Vrancor Hospitality Corporation.
The hotel is located minutes from Chief Commander Cruises, Lake Nipissing beach front, and the Dionne Quintuplets Museum. Hotel amenities include complimentary On the House hot breakfast, free high-speed wired and wireless internet access service, an indoor heated pool with 24-hour fitness centre and 24-hour Suite Shop convenience store.
“Hampton Hotels combine quality, service, comfort and plenty of value-added extras, making Hampton the brand of choice in the marketplace today,” said Peter Nykilchuk, general manager for the new property.

Knights Inn in Merritt, BC is a pet-friendly property
MERRITT, BC—The 20-room Knights Inn Merritt is located at 2702 Nicola Ave, with convenient access to highway 97C, downtown Merritt and many local restaurants. The property also features free parking, free high speed internet and is pet friendly. Merritt is located in the Nicola Valley, south of Kamloops, BC.
“We’re proud to welcome the Knights Inn Merritt to our Knights Inn family,” said Glen Blake, president of Knights Inn Canada, adding that there are now over 300 Knights Inn properties open across North America.

Atlific adds Four Points by Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa
GATINEAU-OTTAWA—Atlific Hotels has announced the addition of Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Conference Centre Gatineau-Ottawa as the 43rd property in its growing management portfolio. This property joins Atlific’s already robust National Capital Region portfolio which includes the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa Downtown, Residence Inn by Marriott Ottawa Downtown, Hotel Indigo Ottawa and Lord Elgin Hotel.
Located directly across from the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Four Points Gatineau-Ottawa is within close proximity to many local attractions such as Parliament Hill, the Palais des congrès de Gatineau, Ottawa Art Gallery, Royal Canadian Mint and the National Gallery of Canada just to name a few.

Julie Bélanger, who has been appointed general manager, has over 20 years of experience in the hotel industry and has been with Atlific since 2001.
Four Points Gatineau-Ottawa has 201 guestrooms, including seven suites and 11 flexible meeting rooms.
The hotel’s meeting space is located in the historic wing of the property that dates back to 1889 and once housed the Presbytery of Notre-Dame-de-Grace Church.

Three Knights Inns for Ontario

OAKVILLE, ON—In July, Knights Inn Canada announced the addition of three properties, the Knights Inn Kingston, Ontario, the Knights Inn Flesherton, Ontario and the Knights Inn London, Ontario.
“We now have 18 Knights Inn locations across Canada that all share a commitment to offering travellers clean, quality accommodations at reasonable rates,” said Glen Blake, president of Knights Inn Canada.
The 84 room Knights Inn London – South is located at 1170 Wellington Road and features meeting facilities, a indoor heated pool, and a fitness centre.  It has pet friendly rooms available.
The spacious Knights Inn Flesherton is conveniently located at 774107 Highway 10 South. The property is pet friendly and hosts an onsite restaurant.
The Knights Inn Kingston features free high-speed internet access and complimentary continental breakfast. The property is located at 1155 Princess Street near Queens University, 1000 Islands and Fort Henry.
Two additional Knight’s Inn properties are scheduled to open this summer.
