Condos boast their own yacht slips

VICTORIA, BC–Brentwood Bay Lodge Ltd. is launching the sales of six new oceanfront condominium residences just steps away from its award-winning five-star boutique hotel, Brentwood Bay Lodge & Spa.

The resort is located in the heart of Victoria’s wine-country on Vancouver Island, just 10 minutes from Victoria International Airport.

Each of the six ultra-luxury OceanVillas will be 1,850 square feet with two bedrooms plus den/media room and a great room with designer finishes such as natural stone and hardwood floors. The west coast contemporary design includes a gourmet kitchen and a double-sided fireplace on the large oceanfront balcony. “Lanai” style patio-doors fold completely open providing a seamless sense of inside/outside space with spectacular sunsets views over the Malahat Mountains and across the Saanich Inlet.

The developer has committed to green building practices designing to “LEED for Homes” standards, ensuring energy-efficient systems and environmental sustainability. Each OceanVilla will also include a private garage with a “green roof” with storage for bikes, golf clubs and kayaks.

Two new Sandmans for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, BC—Sandman Hotel Group will start construction this fall on a new Sandman Signature Hotel in Kamloops, British Columbia. The 150-room hotel will be located in downtown Kamloops across from the Interior Savings Centre, home of the Kamloops Blazers.

The 4.5-star Sandman Signature Hotel in Kamloops will feature a Cucumber Café serving fresh and healthy meals throughout the day, as well as the popular Shark Club – Sports, Bar & Grill.

Sandman Hotel Group is also developing another 200-room Sandman Hotel in the Aberdeen area of the city, which will bring the number of Sandman locations within the Kamloops area to three.

The new Sandman Signature Hotel Kamloops will add to the existing two Sandman Signature properties currently located at Toronto International Airport and Vancouver International Airport. Four additional Sandman Signature Hotels & Resorts are in development in Prince George, British Columbia, Edmonton South, Alberta, Langley, British Columbia and Markham, Ontario.

Based in Vancouver, the Sandman Hotel Group currently has 35 properties from British Columbia to Quebec with over 5,000 employees.  It operates as a network of sister hotel and restaurant companies under the Northland Properties Corporation.

New owners for The Islander

CHARLOTTETOWN—Mike Murphy and Paul Smith, the owners of The Great George and Stanhope Bay & Beach Resort purchased The Islander in May and quickly updated the property for this tourism season. By June, the hotel received 60 new beds and linens, a fresh coat of paint, and renovated meeting rooms.

The Islander has a total of 47 rooms and is located on Pownal Street, which is within a short walk to the Confederation Centre of the Arts, fine dining and family restaurants, boutique shopping and the Confederation Court Mall, Peake’s Quay Historic Merchants and the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront, Province House, Founders’ Hall and SandLand.

The Islander offers the same breakfast that is served at The Great George and Stanhope Bay & Beach Resort.

This fall, The Islander will undergo further renovations to improve the furniture and guest rooms, update the lobby and exterior of the building. The Islander will be an economical option in downtown Charlottetown.

Million dollar makeover for Country Inn

OAKVILLE, ON—Oakville’s Country Inn & Suites is nearing the end of a six-month, million dollar makeover that will completely refurbish the 71-room property.  At press time all the public areas and the ground floor rooms had been renovated, general manager Benni Devasia told CLN.

“We’ve renovated the whole lobby—flooring, walls, furniture and breakfast area,” he said.
 
The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast with omelets and make-your-own waffles. “We change the offerings so we can offer a good mix of food to our regular customers.,” Devasia added.

They have also installed 47-inch LCD televisions in each of their three meeting rooms.
The guest rooms on the bottom floor of the two-storey building have received new light fittings, wall fixtures, bedding and televisions.

The second phase of the renovations will start by October and finish within a month.  This will include the remaining guest rooms, plus a fitness centre with new Nautilus equipment.

The hotel has changed service providers, and will now offer free high-speed wireless internet “that is totally seamless and secure,” Devasia said.

The hotel is located at Winston Churchill and the Queen Elizabeth Way, close to a business park, and its clientele is 85 per cent corporate.

Country Inns and Suites is part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide. For the 14th year in a row, the brand has earned a 98 per cent guest return rate, one of the highest in the industry.
