New office and product lines for George Courey Inc.

LAVAL, QC—George Courey Inc., makers of bedding for the hospitality industry, has a new head office and warehouse, a 9,280 square metre (100,000 square foot) facility in Laval, Quebec on Montreal’s north shore.

In addition, the company has noted a number of bedding trends in the hospitality industry, says company representative Claude Belleville. These include the following:

o    Sheets and bedding—Hotels are now requesting minimum 200 or 220 thread count sheets. Higher-end hotels are even looking at T250 to T300 thread count, tone on tone with a white satin stripe.

o    Pillows—Microfibre pillows are more and more popular because of their luxurious,  down-like feel. There’s also a trend toward anti-microbial, hypo-allergenic pillows.

o    The Bed-bug proof, box spring mattress protector—This is a very important product today.  It is made of 100 per cent white polyester knit.  There is also a full mattress and box spring encasement, certified bedbug-proof, providing a complete dust mite barrier, and protecting against allergens, with a zipper seal.

o    Comforters—Microfibre blankets made from 100 per cent polyester are now replacing the traditional Vellux blankets. Microfibre duvets feel like down and have the same characteristics as other microfibre products.

o    Top of the bed program—George Courey is launching a new group of products which include thin quilted bedspreads, with  throws or bed scarves, which are very popular in the hotel market. Thes products should launch in the next few months.

o    Percale sheets—George Courey is now indicating  the weight of each one of their sheets. The heavier the weight is, the longer the life of the sheet will be, and the better the quality is—saving replacement costs. All of their sheets have an ID colour thread on the hem to distinguish the sizes.

o    White bedding—Classic white bedding, which includes all microfibre bedding products, is still very popular.

o    Thirsty cotton towels—George Courey also launched new microfibre towels called Thirsty cotton this year.  Billed as fast-drying and eco-friendly, these new towels use an advanced micro-denier intermingling technology. Testing performed for George Courey showed that the towels absorbed more water and gave more water back in drying.  The tests also showed that the performance of the towel improved the longer it was used.
