Sorbara report, new media main issues at OAA
ORILLIA, ON—Members of the Ontario Accommodation Association are concerned about recent political developments in the province, namely the Sorbara Report’s recommendations concerning creation of 11 regions (Destination Marketing and Management Organizations or DMMOs) and Destination Marketing Fees (DMFs); and the Ontario government’s proposal to harmonize the GST and PST. That message emerged loud and clear at the recent Ontario Accommodation Association 60th Anniversary Convention held March 30 at The Best Western Mariposa Inn, Orillia.

Hotel artwork that’s worth remembering
“When designing our rooms, our aim is to create a truly guest-centric experience, and that starts with the artwork,” says Anne Larcade, president and COO of Sequel Hotels and Resorts. Larcade made the comment while speaking as a panelist in the Designers Meet The Dragons session at the Hotel Association Conference in Toronto in February, where two designers (HOK’s Joe Pettipas and BKDI’s Charl Johnson) each put forth their respective plans for designing a mid-market guest room with a budget of $7,500.
