JASPER, AB—The year 1986 was a year of changes for Rena and Chris Allin. That was the year they gave up their careers, and got married three days before taking over a log cabin resort in Jasper, Alberta.

César Ritz and the Savoy
César Ritz was born on a small farm in Niederwald Switzerland in 1850. A farmer’s life was not for him so the teenage Ritz made his way to Paris where he found work as a waiter. He rose through the ranks and by age 28 he was manager of the Grand Hôtel National in Lucerne for the winter season and its sister hotel in Monaco for the summer.
