SOOKE, BC—The internationally renowned Sooke Harbour House has been listed for sale at $5.9 million.

Frederique and Sinclair Philip have run the waterfront restaurant and 28-room inn next to the famous Whiffen Spit (with almost a mile of sand and gravel beach) in Sooke for over 30 years.

The couple have attracted guests and diners from around the world with their luxury-themed guest rooms with original native art, each with wood-burning fireplaces, and a critically acclaimed restaurant featuring certified organic meat and produce from an on-site garden and nearby farm.

Sinclair Philip helped spearhead the “slow food” movement internationally, promoting the idea of eating regionally and seasonally.

The Philips have set up a network of farmers, foragers and producers to supply the restaurant menu, which changes every day.

“Tourism is down with fewer visitors from the United States and a strong Canadian dollar which have both had an impact on the travel industry in general,” Philip said, when asked why he and his wife have put the property on the market.

The majority of customers are from the BC mainland, although visitors from around the world are found staying at the inn on any day of the year.

Sooke Harbour House is regularly featured in travel guides, hosts special events and features local artists and live music.

In the summer months, Sooke Harbour House is a popular choice for brides but year round they have weddings and elopements taking place.

Even the local beaches feature seaweed that is being harvested, lightly processed and shipped around the world for health lotions and treatments.

The 100 varieties of sea lettuce and kelp are used on the restaurant menu as well.

The oceanfront location is a site visitors never forget.

Sooke Harbour House has received many awards including:

o    Gold List World’s Best Hotels and Resorts, Conde Nast Traveler, 2012

o    Number 1 Most Popular Restaurant on Vancouver Island, Zagat, 2012

o    Gold Award, Best Vancouver Island Restaurant, Vancouver Magazine Critics’ Poll, 1989- 2012
