NIAGARA FALLS—The Costabile family has been in the hotel business since 2009, and owns three properties in the Niagara area—the Oakes Inn, Days Inn Fallsview and Days Inn Clifton Hill.
But family patriarch Alfredo Costabile, owner of Alfidome Construction and Canop Investments, wanted to build his own hotel. He bought the former Stanley Motor Inn and adjacent Fallsview Inn.
He tore down the Stanley Motor Inn, and made it into a parking lot. The Fallsview Inn was completely gutted and renovated at a cost of $10 million, and two storeys were added. Now, after a year and a half of construction, the former 65-room property is now a 152-room Wyndham Garden Inn—the first of its brand in Canada.
Alfredo’s daughter, Maria Costabile is involved in the management.
“It’s upscale contemporary, and there’s a niche for it here,” says Alan McCauley, director of hotels at Niagara Hospitality Hotels Inc., which provides management consulting on an ongoing basis. McCauley adds that the brand fits Niagara Hospitality’s portfolio, complementing its existing hotels.
Dianne Hynes, controller, Alfidome Construction, says the onsite Perkins restaurant helps attract Niagara Falls residents.
Furnishings for the new hotel were provided by Brick Hospitality Group, notes Hynes, adding that she was very happy with their products and timely delivery.
