Cari Lemieux, president, Regina Hotel Association board

Cari Lemieux has been named the Regina Hotel Association’s new board president. With over 22 years experience in Regina’s hotel and hospitality industry, Lemieux is the GM of Days Inn Regina (East).  Prior to that, she managed the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson for 15 years in east Regina. She has been serving on the RHA Board of Directors since 2006.

Lyndon Discombe is the new CEO at Royal Equator Inc., replacing Julian Bugledich, who has moved back to Australia. Discombe also hails from Australia, coming to Royal Equator from a position as general manager at Lake Crackenback Resort in the Snowy Mountains. Prior to that he was GM at the Prince Hotel & Residence in Kuala Lumpur, and held resort manager positions at Hayman Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia and at the Six Senses Resort and Spa at Evason Hua Hin in Thailand.

Bruno Filali, new executive chef, Comfort Hotel, Victoria, BC

Bruno Filali, the new executive chef at the Comfort Hotel & Conference Centre, Victoria, BC, completed his training at the Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute in Ottawa in 1993. After working in some fabulous kitchens in various hotels and fine dining establishments in Ontario, the lure of BC’s temperate climate drew this chef to Victoria, where he has been pursuing his passion for creating great food ever since. Chef Filali puts emphasis on good, solid comfort food, using his French-Algerian heritage to create food that is “a little bit European, a little bit Mediterranean, and a whole lot of delicious”.

Robert Pratt, president, Coast Hotels & Resorts, has announced the appointment of Sarah Kirby Yung to the position of executive director, marketing and communications for the hotel chain. Kirby Yung has held senior positions with leading organizations such as Tourism Vancouver and the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre. Prior to joining Coast Hotels, she headed up SKY Communications, a Vancouver-based communications consultancy.

Ben Guanzon is now Coast’s executive director, information technology. He has more than 20 years information technology experience, most recently as director, information technology, at Vancouver Community College, leading a team of 35 technology professionals delivering IT applications, infrastructure, educational technology and services to college staff and students.

Pia Collins

Pia Collins joins the brand as executive director, people and culture, Prior to joining Coast Hotels & Resorts, Collins was acting vice president, human resources for Vancouver-based Matrix Asset Management. Collins is an HR veteran with more than 20 years experience.

Wendy Lamont

Coast welcomes back Wendy Lamont, who takes up the reins as executive director, revenue management & distribution for the brand. Lamont rejoins the hotel group after an 18-year hiatus. Most recently she spent eight years with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts as area director, revenue management overseeing their three downtown Vancouver properties. Lamont is also a part-time instructor for Vancouver Community College’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management Program.

Laura Pallotta, corporate director of sales, Delta Hotels & Resorts

Laura Pallotta has been promoted to corporate director of sales for Delta Hotels & Resorts. Pallotta has over 21 years of hotel experience, eight of which were spent in progressive leadership positions at Delta.  Before taking on her current role, Pallotta was the regional director of sales and marketing. Prior to joining Delta, Pallotta held various sales and marketing positions with the Waterside Inn in Port Credit, Best Western Carlton Place & Days Inn Hotel and Conference Centre in Toronto, as well as the Ramada Hotel in Hamilton.

Steve L’Abbé, head sommelier, Manoir Hovey, North Hatley, QC

Head sommelier Steve L’Abbé has joined the Manoir Hovey restaurant team in North Hatley, QC. He brings to the Le Hatley restaurant team some 13 years of distinguished service in European restaurants like the 3 Star Michelin Martin Berasategui restaurant in Spain.  His experience, knowledge and above all his passion to demystify the world of wines remains his major quality.

Rosewood Hotel Georgia is pleased to welcome Derek Damon to the role of food & beverage director at one of Vancouver’s leading luxury hotels. Responsible for operations at both Reflections restaurant and lounge and 1927 lobby lounge, as well as banquets, weddings and room services, Damon will also be integral to the opening of Prohibition, slated for the end of the year.

Christian Kuhn, VP marketing Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites

Christian Kuhn is now vice president, marketing for Homewood Suites by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton. In his new role, Kuhn is responsible for the strategic development of the two brands, global brand positioning and leading overall marketing initiatives. Prior to joining Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites, Kuhn served as director of brand marketing for Embassy Suites.  During his three year tenure at Embassy Suites, Kuhn created and launched over 12 unique promotional sweepstakes, each setting new ROI records.

Having advised Select Hotel Investment for the past year, Jon Lantz has joined the firm as a managing director. Lantz has been involved in appraisals, valuations, site selection, construction, equity funding, debt financing and hotel brokerage, with two of Canada’s most widely respected hotel consulting organizations. Select is well-positioned to grow its hotel portfolio and deliver substantial returns to its equity partners going forward.

The Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos has signed Jonas Stadtländer as its new executive chef. Stadtländer will run the Wine Bar & Patio, as well as the resort’s conference and banquet space. The son of well-known Ontario chef Michael Stadtländer, who operates a mixed farm in rural Ontario that embodies the field-to-table approach to cuisine, the younger Stadtländer has worked in Germany’s Wielandshöhe restaurant and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Tokyo.
