Lansky lists worst hotel names

Doug Lansky, author of The Titanic Awards, has posted his list of the nine worst hotel names in the world at www.huffingtonpost.com/doug-lansky/the-9-hotels-with-the-wor_b_561195.html.

"How about a spending a night in the Ufuk Hotel?" writes Lansky. "Or imagine trying to book a room over the phone at the Ah Chew hotel. (Gesundheit!) And what could be more appealing than a little antibiotics-free stay in China's Resist Bacteria Hotel?" he adds.

 

Scandic's all-organic uniforms

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN-The Scandic hotel chain will become the first large chain in the world to adopt a totally organic uniform for its staff later this year.

The 151-unit chain says that the 100 per cent organic uniform will have its own "personality and soul" when it launches later this year.  The company will team up with a leading fashion designer to create the uniforms.

Smaller establishments like the Kessler Collection's El Monte Sagrado resort and spa and the boutique Monte Azul Costa Rica, already use organic uniforms. Wyndham Worldwide switched to uniforms made from recycled plastic bottles in 2008. And Kimpton and Marriott hotels also produce their uniforms from consumer waste.

 

How about some Vino-Therapy?

VICTORIA, BC-Brentwood Bay Lodge has teamed up with nearby Mussio Farms and Starling Lane Vineyards to create Vino Therapy Services, for guests looking for a little fun with their relaxation. The only spa on Vancouver Island offering the chance to be rubbed and scrubbed from head to toe with local grapes, services at the spa include the Vino Stomp Pedicures, Vino and Honey Wraps and Scrubs, Vino Massages and the Vino Lover's Couples Package.

Prices for Vino Therapy Services start at $85, with all services accompanied by a glass of Starling Lane vino.

 

Facebook meets TripAdvisor

NEWTON, MA-TripAdvisor has  launched the travel industry's first major implementation of the Facebook Open Graph. TripAdvisor's Trip Friends feature allows travellers to tap into their social network to find friends that can offer advice about a destination. "Trip Friends signifies how travel search and discovery processes are becoming more personalized," the company says. "This is something travellers have been waiting for. They are used to tapping the wisdom of the crowds; now they get to share the wisdom of friends."

 

Top Employers for Young People

TORONTO-Several Canadian hotels made the Globe & Mail's list of Top Employers for Young People last month. They include Airline Hotels & Resorts Ltd., Saskatoon; Canad Inns, Winnipeg; Club Intrawest, Vancouver; and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Toronto. Employers are evaluated according to the programs they use to attract and retain young talent.
