More Deltas to get hybrid heating

VANCOUVER—After reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent at the Delta Whistler Village Suites, Sempa Power Systems Ltd., has been contracted to install its patentpending technology at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort and Delta Winnipeg.

In addition to the dramatic GHG emissions reductions, the hybrid heating system has cut the hotel's energy expenses by $70,000, a 30 per cent reduction in total energy costs. The system also has reduced the overall energy consumption at the hotel by 10 per cent, or 10,000 gigajoules.

Sempa's hybrid heating technology automatically switches between fossil fuel sources and electricity depending on which source is the most cost efficient at any point in the day. This in turn minimizes costs, decreases GHG emissions and increases energy efficiency. In 2007, Sempa received the Deloitte Technology Green 15 Award as one of the fastest growing technology companies in Canada.

Sempa is in talks with Delta Hotels in Vancouver and Victoria for similar projects. Most major hotels and resorts in the community of Whistler, BC, are using Sempa's hybrid heating system.
