TORONTO—Seventeen years with a top-flight luxury hotel chain, plus four years hands-on experience running his own resort, Rockwater Cove on BC’s Sunshine Coast, are two of the credentials that got Kevin Toth hired as chief operating officer of Skyline Hotels & Resorts.

During his 17 years with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Toth has worked with the country’s most prestigious hotels including Fairmont’s Hotel Macdonald, Château Laurier, Jasper Park Lodge and Chateau Whistler. Notable achievements included overseeing the $30-million restoration of Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, and making history as the corporation’s youngest general manager.

“When I met Gil [Blutrich, president, Skyline International Development Group], I was excited about the long-term development opportunities at Skyline and wanted to be a part of it,” Toth told CLN.

Some of those projects include:

  • Renovations to the Pantages Hotel ballroom.
  • The new $2 million outdoor adventure park at Horseshoe Valley opening July 2, which includes Ziplining and Zorbing—rolling downhill in an orb, generally made of transparent plastic.
  • The Skylife project, launching June 15, offering members access to seven clubs with skiing, golfing, country and city get-aways, boating, tubing, mini-golf and skating.
  • Formulating a strategy to reposition Toronto’s Le Méridien King Edward hotel in Toronto “to its rightful position as Toronto’s iconic historic hotel,” following Skyline’s assumption of part ownership of the King Eddy March 8.

Toth last worked in Toronto in the early 1980s, and he is astonished at how different and how friendly the city feels. Dividing his time between Skyline properties and Rockwater, Toth has both the benefits of “an exciting city that is so vibrant” and lifestyle destinations like Rockwater or Horseshoe Valley Resort. “I’ve got the best of both worlds,” he said. “I’m a lucky guy.”
