BRANTFORD, ON—The Best Western Brant Park Inn & Conference Centre recently participated in two community events to help raise $10,000 for local charities. The hotel took part in the St. Leonard’s Community Group Soup Challenge and the Chili Willy Cook-off.
Staff from the hotel’s restaurant represented the hotel in the Soup Challenge by winning “Judges Choice” with the Roasted Maple Squash Bisque. The hotel’s participation in the Soup Challenge, supported St. Leonard’s Community Group, which assists underprivileged children.
Chef Fred Barnes of the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Kirby’s Bar and Buffet, represented the hotel in the Chili Willy Cook-off. The Chili Willy Cook-off held in Harmony Square downtown Brantford. The hotel competed against 14 other local restaurants and won both events in the Soup Challenge and Chili Willy Cook-off.
“This year marked the first year our hotel has participated in both events and I am very proud of our staff for their generosity and community involvement,” said Joanne Brooks-Calhau, food and beverage manager of the Best Western Brant Park Inn & Conference Centre. “It’s great that we can support our local charities and have fun at the same time. We hope to make these events a tradition each year.”

Halifax Courtyard by Marriott goes platinum

HALIFAX—The Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Downtown has received a Platinum Service Award for Overall Guest Satisfaction in 2008.
The award is based on customer feedback from Marriott’s 750 Courtyard Hotels throughout North America.
The award was presented by Marriott International Hotels & Resorts at the General Managers conference held in New Orleans on March 7 to general manager, Frank LaLeune. The property located on the corner of Salter and Lower Water Streets opened in June 2007 to a steady stream of business and continues to enjoy a loyal clientele.

Full House Best of the Best receive awards
OAKVILLE, ON—Howard Johnson Canada Franchise Systems Limited and Knights Inn Canada Franchise Systems Limited recognized their top performers of 2008 during the awards ceremony held during their regional meetings in February of this year.
Twenty-two awards were presented to Knights Inn and Howard Johnson properties across Canada, recognizing achievements from increased RevPar to Franchisee of the Year.
Fourteen Howard Johnson properties were also recognized their Gold Medal status, with high marks on their Quality Assurance scores in areas such as cleanliness, property maintenance and brand standard compliance.
CAA honours NS hotels
HALIFAX—The CAA/AAA recently announced its list of Four-Diamond status hotels, and some Halifax properties received the coveted honour. The Halifax Marriott Harbourfront got the nod for the twenty-fourth year, while the Prince George Hotel earned the designation for the seventh time.
A world-recognized rating system, the independent CAA/AAA rating program is the only one that applies to the whole of North America.
Cornell lauds Marriott
NEW YORK/WASHINGTON—J. W. (Bill) Marriott, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Marriott International, Inc., will receive the first Icon of the Industry Award from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration at a ceremony at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
Marriott will be honoured for his lifelong leadership in the hospitality industry and for his extraordinary civic and philanthropic contributions.
